Five Russian universities among the best European universities

Five Russian universities, including four from Project 5-100, are listed among the top 200 Education Institutions in Europe, according to a ranking published by the British Times Higher Education. Russian universities included in the ranking:

  • Moscow State University (79th place)
  • Peter the Great St. Petersburg Polytechnic University (111-120 group)
  • Tomsk Polytechnic University (131-140 group)
  • Kazan (Volga) Federal University (151-160 group)
  • National Research Nuclear University MEPhI (161-170 group).

Top ten of the best universities in Europe includes mainly UK universities: Oxford, Cambridge, Imperial College London and University College London, London School of Economics and Political Sciences, University of Edinburgh, King's College London. This magnificent seven was “diluted” by ETH Zurich (4th place), Karolinska Institute of Sweden (9th place) and the Ludwig Maximilian University of Munich in Germany (10th place).

According to the authors, this updated table is based on data from THE World University Rankings (2015-2016) where no less than seven Russian universities have newly entered the rating . Significantly, of the 13 Russian universities currently ranked, nine are part of Project 5-100.
