Martynov Viktor Georgievich

Dr., Prof., Rector of Gubkin Russian State University of Oil and Gas

He was born on August 25, 1953 in Moscow.

In 1975 he graduated with honours from Moscow Gubkin Institute of Oil and Gas with the degree of "Mountain geophysicist".

  • Full member of the Russian Academy of Natural Sciences in the oil and gas section

After graduation, V.G. Martynov stayed at the University for research and teaching: a junior researcher, then a senior researcher (1977-1987); then he was offered the post of the director at the Training and Research centre for managers and staff professional development (1987-2003) and became First Vice-Rector (2001-2008). He was also engaged in social work heading the Department of science and higher education in Oktiabrskiy district of Komsomol youth organization in Moscow. In 2001-2008 he held the position of the director at HR development issues in energy sector institute, since 2004 he has been the head of the geophysical information systems department.

In October 2008, V.G. Martynov became elected rector of Gubkin Russian State University of Oil and Gas.

V.G. Martynov chairs the Academic council of the University and the Council of the RF education and methodology association of petroleum engineering universities. He is a member of two Gubkin University dissertation councils and the presidium of the Council of education and methodology association in higher education in the field of applied geology.

V.G. Martynov is the author to more than 100 scientific and methodological publications.

V.G. Martynov was awarded with medals:

  • ‘In Commemoration of the 850th Anniversary of Moscow’ (1997),
  • ‘For Merits in Administering All-Russian Census’ (2004);
  • Central Komsomol Committee medal ‘For Active Work in Komsomol’ (1981);
  • All-Union Central Council of Trade Unions medal ‘For Active Work in Trade Unions’ (1986);
  • silver medal of the USSR Exhibition of Economic Achievements (1989);
  • medal ‘Leader of Education’ of Znanie Society (2011);
  • Certificate of Honor from Moscow City Duma (2011).

V.G. Martynov is:

  • the Honorable Worker of the gas industry (2000);
  • Honorable Worker of the energy sector (2003);
  • Honorable Worker of the RF higher professional education (2003);
  • award winner of Gubkin Scientific and Technical Society (2002,2008),
  • Honorable resources explorer (2009),
  • holder of the Russian Government grant in science and technology (2011).
